We couldn’t help but visit the two new spots that opened in the city and share our experience with you.
Our first stop was at Al Kufeya, in the center of Athens. Its name is directly associated with Palestinian identity and resistance, and not by chance, since here you will try authentic Palestinian cuisine.
From the first moment, the place wins you over. The traditional decoration transports you mentally to the alleys of an Arab capital, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. The “local” vibe is further enhanced by the owners, who are originally from Palestine and take care of every detail with passion. Of course, there was no shortage of music: while we enjoyed our food, we were accompanied by classical melodies from legends of the Arab scene.
On the menu you will find a wide variety of delicious options to get you started, such as muhammara salad, fattoush, shams and foul, ideal for “whetting” your appetite before moving on to the main courses. This is where all the magic of the cuisine unfolds, with dishes such as maqluba, shawarma (on a plate or sandwich), falafel with sauce and mushroom dish and others that cover every taste.
And of course, don’t leave without dessert. Muhalabeya is the perfect ending: a light, aromatic dessert that leaves you with the sweetest aftertaste.
Note: We were told that the menu will be gradually enriched, so it is worth visiting again to discover new flavors.
The second stop: a modern Lebanese experience in Kolonaki
Our second visit was to Yalla Habibi, a Lebanese spot in Kolonaki that brings a different vibe than what we’re used to.
At first glance, you can tell that this is a completely different concept. The space is modern, with a strong youthful character, but it doesn’t forget its roots. The references to Fairuz and the impressive graffiti on the stairs create a beautiful contrast between the old and the modern, giving the space a special identity.
If you find yourself there, you must definitely try the manakish. They are reminiscent of pizza, yet lighter and incredibly flavorful. The menu skillfully marries authentic Lebanese cuisine with street food, featuring imaginative options like burgers and hot dogs with Middle Eastern influences. Naturally, the classic shawarma is a staple, while for a complete tasting experience, the mixed grill featuring tawouk, kafta, and other traditional flavors is the perfect choice.
The restaurant’s philosophy embraces modern aesthetics without losing the authenticity of the flavors. The result? A menu that wins you over without exaggeration, even the prices remain affordable, something that is not always a given for the region.
